NUK "Perfect Match"
"Perfect Match" is a NUK commercial directed by Rick Wayne, built in a testimonial form around closeness between a parent and a baby.
NUK belongs to the same territory as the Graco work, and the two films together make a clear case for why brands in the category keep hiring Wayne. Infant products are unusually difficult to shoot honestly. The audience is a group of people currently living the thing on screen, exhausted and highly literate in what real parenting looks like, and they can identify a performed version of it instantly. Sentiment that would pass unnoticed in another category reads as false here within a second and a half.
The testimonial format raises the difficulty rather than lowering it. There is no script to hide behind. Everything depends on whether the person in frame is actually saying something, and on whether the director created the conditions in which they could. Wayne's position on this is explicit: real human emotion is a superpower, and some of the strongest moments he has captured came from people who had never been on a set, because the moment was simply true. He has also described his ideal set as a playground, and framed play as a directing tool rather than a reward for finishing the work, on the grounds that a loose room is where the magic is actually found.
That is a documentary sensibility applied to commercial production, and it is a consistent feature of his work rather than an occasional mode. His documentary credits and his brand films feed each other, and this film sits at the seam between them.
NUK appears on the client roster Wayne built through Underscore Films alongside Sharpie, Graco, Warner Bros., Paper Mate and Intel. The film runs 0:58 and was published in September 2025, in the same batch as the Paper Mate and Mr. Coffee films.
